Two Stars: The Ledbury

4 of us, all Australian, visited The Ledbury on Australia day earlier this year. There had been so much anticipation before visiting this two Michelin Star restaurant that we had literally been counting down the days for the past three months. We may have been excited, however generally The Ledbury keeps somewhat quiet, you know it's there but there isn't a lot of current media attention of hype surrounding the restaurant. That said, its quality stands for itself.

The £35 lunch menu on offer is good value. I started with the Chantilly and Tartare of Oysters with Frozen Horseradish and Dill. The flavours were good but I found the frozen horseradish added an uncomfortable and slightly unnecessary coldness the the dish, I sort of felt the oyster would have been stronger on their own.

The main, pork two ways with celeriac and mash was delicious. Both cuts of pork were so tender they melted in your mouth. The jus was rich in the juices of the pork and added depth to the dish. Overall, it was lovely. My Mille-Feuille for desert was uninspiring. The pastry was a little overcooked and chewy, however the rhubarb and honey was it's saviour, delicious.

The Ledbury was an experience, however I had expected a little more from a two star establishment. Perhaps The Ledbury is resting on its laurels, or perhaps it's a little behind the times. Overall, my meal was enjoyable but I would still prefer a visit to Pollen Street Social or Wild Honey.
